I've read in the old discussion referred above ( ) that Zotero uses a modified version of "pdfinfo", however in a more recent discussion in GitHub ( ), it is stated that modified version is no longer used. However, in fact, those two tools are installed to my system via "poppler-utils" package and I can use both tools using the terminal without any problem. pdftotext and pdfinfo tools seem not installed in my Zotero (debian's package, v4.0.29) and install buttons are invisible (probably because of this: ). Its a set of tools that serve as graphical frontends to exiftool and allow viewing and editing PDF metadata. If you are more into the GUI side of things you could give my project PDFMtEd a try.
